Yellow Ball

BFIAR Preschool – Post From the Past (June 2017):

We planned to row Yellow Ball for only one week.  This was a really quick read with plenty of topics to explore.

BIBLE:

I created a Bible Verse Printable Pack to go along with Yellow Ball.  We chose to memorize Matthew 8:27 since it referenced the wind and waves obeying God.

Parker worked on his Bible verse puzzle and memorized it within the week.

READY TO ROW:

We made round, golden pancakes to commemorate our Yellow Ball row.

Jordan created his cover page for this row.

Sensory Story Box:

I created a Yellow Ball Vocabulary set for this row.

I set up a beach and shoreline sensory box for Parker to use while rowing Yellow Ball.  I printed and laminated the vocabulary cards and found coordinating toys/objects to represent each word.

First he matched each vocabulary word to the picture cards.  Next he found and matched the coordinating object/toy in our sensory box.

Once Parker was more familiar with his vocabulary words, I added them as a spelling activity in our learning lane.

Yellow Day:

We started our morning with a yellow ball (cooked egg yolk) inspired breakfast and plenty of yellow activities!

We worked on our yellow color flip book (Lavinia Pop – In My World).

Parker painted his yellow lapbook inserts (Homeschool Share) with lemon-scented kool-aid watercolors.

Read several yellow themed books on our Epic app.

Parker worked on the yellow tray I set up in our learning lane.

We even played a game with a yellow ball, well… a yellow balloon!

Little Yellow Duck:

We took a day to relish little yellow duckies we love to splash with in the bath!

We read several books about ducks, ducklings, and adorable picture books.

The kids made really cute yellow duckie collages!

I made a fun duck pond sensory bin for the kids to play with.

We enjoyed a festive “Duckies at the Pond” lunch too!

LANGUAGE ARTS:

Prepositions:

I created a Yellow Ball Prepositions pack for Parker.

Parker worked on the prepositional phrase cards.

We added some prepositional phrases to our lapbooks.

We added more phonics, reading, spelling, and writing activities on Learning Lane.

MATH:

Parker worked on counting, sorting, and puzzles.

Ordinal Numbers:

I created an ordinal number worksheet for the kids to work on.

Circles:

I created a set of circle lapbook inserts for the kids to work on.

Measure-Me-Math Stack-the-Facts Circles

You can purchase your copy here at our TPT Store.

We read Circles on our Epic app, reviewed the equations, cut out our own circles, and calculated the radius and circumference for each.

SCIENCE:

The Shore:

We read On the Seashore since this story begins and ends on the shoreline.

I read to the kids while they ate their “shoreline” inspired breakfast.

We read about the shoreline zone in our 3D Explorer Oceans book.

The kids colored their Oceanic Zones worksheet (Natural Beach Living).

Ocean Zone Craftivity

I created an Ocean Zone Craftivity you can purchase here at out TPT Store.

The kids added their labels to the charts I prepared.

We read more beach and shore themed books.

Hurricanes:

We did a little hurricane science lesson, because many illustrations show the yellow ball tossed by the wind and waves.

We read The Magic Schoolbus Inside a Hurricane and Hurricanes by Gail Gibbons.

We went into the kitchen to create a model hurricane in a bowl.  We swirled the water around with a spoon then added blue food coloring so we could see the swirling movement better.

ARTS, CRAFTS, & MORE:

Yellow Ball Dough:

Jordan found a recipe for baby powder play dough, so we made it yellow for this row!

Jordan helped measure, mix, and cook the dough.

It was warm, soft, and smelled like baby goodness!

The boys played with the yellow dough. Parks said it smelled disgusting, but Bub LOVED it.  I think he’s trying to convince him it’s good, but he’s not buying it!

Yellow Ball Punch:

I thought it would be fun to set up a life skills activity – Slicing & Squeezing Citrus Fruits.

I gathered lemons, grapefruit, and oranges and placed them in a basket with a hand juicer, a cutting board, and a kid knife.

The kids took turns slicing the citrus fruit.

They squeezed every bit of juice using the hand juicer.

We mixed our juices with sweetener and enjoyed a bright and refreshing drink.
