This week Haley was learning about distillation. At the end of the week, she headed to the kitchen to put her knowledge into action.

Haley gathered her supplies and built her home-made distiller. She placed her collecting dish on top of a terra cotta tray in the center of our 3-QT saucepan.

She created a “tainted water source” (water mixed with food coloring and cinnamon).  She poured her tainted water in the saucepan, carefully avoiding her collecting fish.  She put ice water in a pyrex bowl and placed it on top. As the water boiled, it condensed and dripped into her collecting dish.

She compared the distilled water to the original tainted water source.  What a difference!  What a fun and AMAZING experiment!
