On Monday, Parker traced his Bible verse and listened to the Sing the Word track.

On Tuesday, we cut apart his verse and they glued it in his Bible lapbook.

SOCIAL STUDIES:

Castles:

We bought the Melissa and Doug Medieval Castle 3-D Puzzle to put together while reading about castles, knights, and barons.

Jordan was the designated builder, while Parker found and prepped the next section of the puzzle.

While reading about building in Medieval times, the boys recognized some similarities to building on Minecraft.  I love when they have “lightbulb moments”.

The castle was really starting to take shape.  The boys showed excellent teamwork.

By the end of the week, the castle looked AMAZING!  Bub set it aside to continue working on it the following week.

LANGUAGE ARTS:

Grammar Grab Bag:

I created another Fall on the Farm Grammar Grab Bag for this week’s language arts activities.

Spelling:

I printed out Parker’s spelling cards (in the GGB) to use for his spelling activities.

On Monday, he used his cards to practice writing his words on his spelling worksheet.

On Tuesday, he used his cards again to complete his spelling sentences.  On Thursday, he took his spelling test.

Fall Syllables:

img_5617.jpg

I presented his Fall Syllable word cards (in GGB) in a small sensory bin with scissors.

He read the word card and cut the each on the syllable break.

Short & Long Vowels:

We used the Fall Syllable worksheets for extra practice on his syllables as well as listening for short and long vowel sounds.

He read each word, listened for the vowel sound, colored in whether it was long or short, and divided the word at the syllable break.

Dialog, Quotes, & Attribution:

MATH:

Calendar:

My Calendar Book - Months of the Year
Months of the Year Booklet

I printed the October pages from our Months of the Year booklet and handed them out last week.

The boys completed their October calendar pages and I added them to their booklets.

Measuring Length:

I created a Measure-Me-Math “Measuring Length” lapbook Printable for Parker to add to his Math Notebook.

He added his inserts to his lapbook and worked on the “Put it Into Practice” problems.

We started our next math unit on measuring weight.  I brought out lentil sensory bin along with our Learning Resources Balance and Singapore Math scale.

SCIENCE:

Guess the Mystery Scent:

I created a My Five Senses – Guess the Mystery Scent worksheet to use for this experiment.

I decided to go with fall scents.  I brought out our clove, ginger, cinnamon, and nutmeg along with vanilla and maple.  I filled each container with spice, a little water, and warmed them in the microwave.  Afterwards, I covered them with a little foil and left them to cool.  Once cool, I poked a few holes in each and set them on the tray.

This experiment peaked Haley’s interest, so she was the first to guess the scents.

Parker was next.  He sniffed and wrote his best guesses too.

Lastly, Bub joined in the fun.  I laughed, because he was the only one to guess each one correctly.  What a nose!  This was a really fun fall science activity!

JUST FOR FUN:

Farm Field Trip:

We went on a really fun field trip to a local farm.  The kids saw sheep, pigs, cows, and chicken.

The kids saw the animals, picked popping corn, and stopped at the pumpkin patch before heading home.
