AN IDEA THAT DIDN’T WORK
BIBLE:
Memory Verse:

Jordan memorized Psalm 32:7 for this chapter. He copied it in his FIAR notebook.
Character Study:

We continued to read through our chapter lessons in the FIAR Bible and Character Supplement.
SOCIAL STUDIES:
Geography – The Great Lakes:

Jordan read about The Great Lakes or the “Five Big Puddles” as Hillyer calls them in A Child’s Geography of the World.

Afterwards, he color-coded The Great Lakes using the atlas as his guide.
History – The Erie Canal How It Came To Be:

As suggested in the FIAR manual, Jordan read The Amazing Impossible Erie Canal.
Geography – Making a Map of Edison’s Life:

Jordan color-coded all the places Edison visited.
LANGUAGE ARTS:
Classic Literature Connection:

Jordan read about the “canal life” in The Wind in the Willows.
Writing and Discussion Question:

Jordan answered the discussion question in his FIAR manual.
Folk Song – “The Erie Canal”:
We listened to The Erie Canal by Pete Seeger.
SCIENCE:
Incubating Eggs:
We added egg clips to our The Saturdays playlist.

In addition to reading the FIAR manual, Jordan read An Egg is Quiet.
The Scientific Method:
We bought Jordan a new 3D printer for Christmas. His old printer wasn’t working, but he really wanted to fix it and gift it to a friend.

It was hard to diagnose the problem without proper machinery, but he used observation and reasoning to develop a hypothesis. After a few failed guesses, he evaluated and identified the problem. After saving for the proper solution, he installed the necessary equipment and fixed the printer.
