Thomas A. Edison: Young Inventor (Ch 2)

TOM VISITS THE SHIPYARDS

BIBLE:

Memory Verse:

Jordan memorized Psalm 32:7 for this chapter. He copied it in his FIAR notebook.

Character Study:

We continued to read through our chapter lessons in the FIAR Bible and Character Supplement.

SOCIAL STUDIES:

History: Parlors – A Room of the Past:

I brought out our Living Long Ago so Jordan could see and read about parlors.

Geography – Your Map of Tom Edison’s Life:

Jordan color-coded the map of Thomas Edison’s life.

Life Skills – Listening to People Who Are Younger:

Bub has always been a very social kid. He communicates well with people of all ages. I love when he chats with the younger kids at church. He sits, listens and gets to know them better. I could easily envision him as an elementary school teacher. Who knows what the Lord has in store for him?

LANGUAGE ARTS:

Writing & Discussion Question:

Jordan answered the discussion question in his FIAR notebook.

Vocabulary:

Jordan completed his vocabulary worksheet.

FINE ARTS:

Cooking – A Birthday Cake for Tom:

Bub measured and mixed all the ingredients for Tom’s birthday cake. We placed it in the oven to bake in a sugar-coated pan.

It looked delicious and made the house smell amazing! we placed it in the fridge to frost the next day.

Unfortunately, Bub woke up with a sore throat, but he asked me to finish the frosting. I melted and browned the sugar then whipped the frosting over a double-boiler set up. I talked him through the process while making it.

The frosting was reminiscent of toasted marshmallows. It was a crowd pleaser!

SCIENCE:

Pitch – What It Is and What It’s For:

I printed an article for Bub to read about pitch.

Speed of Light & Sound:

Jordan read about the speed on light and sound in What’s Science all About?
