BIBLE:

FIAR Bible Supplement:

Parker read both the scripture and the lesson material for chapter 2, from the FIAR Bible Supplement Guide.

On other days, he continued reading reading and studying Bible with his Power of Words book

Bible Verse:

Parker wrote and memorized Psalm 147:11 as his Bible verse for this chapter.

LANGUAGE ARTS:

Writing & Discussion Question:

Parker responded to the writing and discussion question in his FIAR Notebook.

Vocabulary:

Parker completed both the first snd second chapter vocabulary words and added them in his FIAR Notebook.

Read-Aloud:

I decided to continue the Little Britches series and ordered the next book, Mary Emma & Company.

SCIENCE:

Gestation Periods in Different Animals:

Parker read Baby Animals in Grassland Habitats on our EPIC app.

Afterwards, he sketched and completed the Gestation Periods using a worksheet from our Skylark Grab Bag.

FINE ARTS:

Color Theory:

Parker completed the color theory worksheets from our Skylark Grab Bag and added them in his FIAR Notebook.

ACTIVITIES & OTHER FUN STUFF:

Apple Tasting Tree:

Though the weather was hot, it felt right to dress up our classroom and set it up for our annual “apple tasting tree”. This has been a tradition since our preschool years.

We first planted our fuji and honeycrisp trees (1st picture) to commemorate our BFIAR The Runaway Bunny row. It grew quite a bit by the time we rowed The Story of Ferdinand (2nd picture). We only ever saw one apple a few years back, but we made the most of it by baking it in a delicious apple galette.

We had our Sequoia trees thinned while rowing The Tree Lady. Since then, our apple trees have been soaking in more sunlight than ever before. In spring, I saw MANY apples growing on both trees. My sister-in-law brought me farmer’s bags to protect them from critters.

This week, I noticed a beautiful scrub jay eyeing them too, so I picked the few that were growing near the bagged apples. I was SO excited, I let the boys each a few while I used the remaining to make apple cinnamon scones!

I cleaned up our classroom tree and prepared it for another season of apples. Parker and I will eventually go from store to store, selecting a few apples of each variety. We’ll dust off our Amelia Bedelia First Apple Pie and use the recipe included – it’s our favorite!

Chapter Book GRAB BAG:

I started creating a GRAB BAG for the Skylark Chapter Book Unit. The Grab Bag series is a collection of worksheets and/or activities that I create while studying the FIAR Chapter Book units with my children. I will post it as soon as it’s available for purchase.
