Chemically Active – Rock Candy Sugar Crystals:
This week Haley was making rock candy sugar crystals and was pretty excited about tasting the final product.
After reading through her experiment, Haley went to the kitchen to gather her supplies.
She measured out her ingredients into a small saucepan.
She stirred her mixture until it was boiling for approximately a minute.
She poured her sugar syrup into a clean mason jar and lowered her cotton string anchored by a bead and a nut (the bead wasn’t weighty enough). We set it aside for about a week.
We checked on it several times, crushing the ice crystals on the surface to ensure the water continued to evaporate.
She inspected the sugar crystals and finally was able to taste the final result….YUM!
