The Story of George Washington Carver (CH 1)

CHAPER 1

Cover Art:

As with our other rows, we usually create a cover art page based on the book’s illustrations. In this case, Parker wanted to illustrate a peanut based on some of George Washington Carver’s scientific work.

Parker created covert art for The Story of George Washington Carver.

BIBLE:

FIAR Bible Supplement:

Parker read the FIAR Bible lessons for this Chapter from the FIAR Bible Supplement.

Afterwards, Parker created painted Missouri on our BFB U.S. map.

History and Geography – Civil War:

After reading about the Civil War in the FIAR Teacher’s Manual, Parker read If You Were a Kid During the Civil War.

Afterwards, Parker read Brave Clara Barton, a woman with a strong humanitarian spirit who’s efforts included teaching, a government worker, helping wounded soldiers on the Civil War battlefield and later bringing the American Red Cross movement to the United States.

History – Genealogy: Knowing Who You Are:

Parker read Me and My Family Tree by Paul Showers.

Randy and I ordered DNA kits and signed up with Ancestry.com. We started mapping our family trees, which was SUPER fun and interesting. This was a fun activity as everyone began editing the various branches of our tree.

Parker also started reading National Geographic Kids Guide to Genealogy book. He would read from this book every day unless there was an assigned science unit in the chapter.
