BIBLE:

FIAR Bible Supplement:

Parker read both the scripture and lesson material for this chapter, using the FIAR Bible Supplement Guide.

On other days, he continued reading and studying Bible lessons with his Power of Words book.

Bible Verse:

Parker wrote and memorized Psalms 43:5 as his Bible verse for this chapter.

SOCIAL STUDIES:

History & Geography – Droughts & Floods – Your State’s History:

Parker read Natural Disasters Floods and Natural Disasters Droughts on our EPIC app.

Afterwards, he researched our state’s historical records for disaster-level floods and recorded them in his FIAR notebook.

Life Skills – Optimism & Hope:

As Parker and I discussed Caleb’s optimism and hopefulness about rain, we turned our discussion towards our own family. He assessed us pretty accurately. His dad is a realist, I’m an optimist, and he and his siblings are a mix. Whatever our proclivity, our outlook should be optimistic since our faith is in God who works ALL things for our good. That is not a promise that we won’t have difficulties, but God will be with us and help us with our struggles.

LANGUAGE ARTS:

Writing & Discussion Question:

Parker responded to the writing and discussion question in his FIAR Notebook.

Read-Aloud:

We’re waiting to start our next read-aloud book, Mary Emma & Company. As the kids get older, It’s not as easy to weave in read-aloud time. Parker works through his core lessons independently, but we utilize whatever free time we have.

SCIENCE:

Building Your Own Weather Station:

Parker read Oh Say Can You Say What’s the Weather Today? All About Weather.

I started creating a GRAB BAG for the Skylark Chapter Book Unit. The Grab Bag series is a collection of worksheets and/or activities that I create while studying the FIAR Chapter Book units with my children. I will post it as soon as it’s available for purchase.
