Geography – Long Island:

Parker read Redcoats and Petticoats, a book I found about Long Island. It’s always fun to learn about a location through a story – fiction or nonfiction.

Writing & Discussion Question:

Parker answered this chapter’s writing and discussion question in his FIAR notebook.

SCIENCE:

Matches – An Accidental Invention:

Parker read about the history of matches in An Uncommon History of Common Things.

He also read Matches by Kenny Abdo on our EPIC app.

I also added “a few clips about m”The Dark History of Matches” on our playlist.

Crickets:

First, Parker read Chirping Crickets.

He also read about crickets and grasshoppers in Julia Rothman’s Insect Anatomy.

Parker also completed a cricket creature report using the worksheet from our Grab Bag.

Insects Spreading Disease:

Parker read about various insects that spread diseases as well as the benefits of insects in an ecosystem.

FINE ARTS:

Garth Williams – Getting to Know Our Illustrator:

Parker used a special ink pen to create a drawing mimicking Garth William’s illustrations.

ACTIVITIES & OTHER FUN STUFF:

Thanksgiving in New York:

Since we were so close to Thanksgiving, I decided to include a few of our Thanksgiving FIAR books.

We read The Thanksgiving Door and Balloons Over Broadway together.
