SOCIAL STUDIES:
How We Respond to Discipline:
This subject matter is near and dear to our family. The Bible says, “the Lord disciplines those He loves” (Hebrews 12:6). Discipline is a form of love, it’s meant to correct and train us. I love Max Lucado’s words, “God loves you just the way you are, but He refuses to leave you that way. He wants you to be just like Jesus.”
It’s exactly the same with our kids. We love them as they are, but we don’t like particular attitudes or behaviors. We correct our kids to train them to become respectable young adults.
Just like Tom, how our kids respond to correction usually affects their punishment, or lack there-of. Many times, a contrite heart and acknowledgement to do things differently is all that’s needed. On the flip side, a disrespectful or emotional rant could cost them their devices. This particular lesson hit close to home. Bub saw that Toms repentant and respectful response to his mom saved his lab.
