CHAPTER 10
BIBLE:
FIAR Bible Supplement:

Parker read both the scripture and the lesson material for this chapter, from the FIAR Bible Supplement Guide.

On other days, he continued reading reading and studying Bible with his Power of Words book
Bible Verse:

Parker wrote and memorized John 13:34 as his Bible verse for this chapter.
SOCIAL STUDIES:
Geography – Maine:

Parker read U.S.A. Travel Guides Maine by Ann Heinrichs on our EPIC app

I also added a My State Report in our Skylark Grab Bag.
History – A Clue to Skylark’s Timeframe: The Automobile:
This history unit quickly became an opportunity to add a little science. So we broke out our Usborne Book of Knowledge.

Parker read about the timeline of cars and how the motor works.

Afterwards, Parker completed the Parts of the Car using Henry Ford’s First Car as a reference. I found a poster, photograph and labeled drawings from The Henry Ford History Museum.
Being Part of a Family:
Parker and I talked about this unit for quite some time. He shares many characteristics from both sides of the family. His looks are a mixture of his father, papa, my uncle and my little brother. His personality is a blend of traits from his Teta, Papa, father, mother, aunt, and my older brother.
LANGUAGE ARTS:
Writing & Discussion Question:

Parker responded to the writing and discussion question in his FIAR Notebook.
Vocabulary:

Parker completed the chapter vocabulary words and added them in his FIAR Notebook.
Additional Reading:

Parker is reading and enjoying Painting the Game. He’s also reading Strawberry Girl, but he’s not thrilled with the story. This is a good life lesson, because he will have to read many books in high school. Much of the mandatory reading won’t be enjoyable. Parker and I will continue to read aloud Mary Emma & Company as we time permits.
FINE ARTS:
Julius Caesar and Aunt Lou’s Dog:

For this unit, Parker read about the life of Julius Caesar in A Child’s History of the World by V.M. Hillyer.
I added a Shakespeare summary on our Skylark playlist.
ACTIVITIES & OTHER FUN STUFF:
Apple Tasting Tree:
No sooner had we washed them than the boys grabbed several and devoured them.

This time around, Parker colored a Granny Smith variety for our tasting tree.

We finally have the boys favorite Granny Smith on our apple tasting tree.
HELPFUL LINKS:
Chapter Book GRAB BAG:
I started creating a GRAB BAG for the Skylark Chapter Book Unit. The Grab Bag series is a collection of worksheets and/or activities that I create while studying the FIAR Chapter Book units with my children. I will post it as soon as it’s available for purchase.

*NOTE: Please be aware that any printable from the Grab Bag series may have worksheets that are similar and/or the same as those available in our other printables. We try to include anything that could enhance a student’s learning experience while rowing the chapter book series.
Pinterest Board:
You can find most of the activities, ideas, and printables from this post on our Skylark Pinterest board.
Youtube Playlist:
As with our other rows, we created a Skylark Playlist with read-alouds, music, science, and other clips.
