CHAPTER 11

BIBLE:

FIAR Bible Supplement:

Parker read both the scripture and lesson material for this chapter, using the FIAR Bible Supplement Guide.

On other days, he continued reading and studying Bible lessons with his Power of Words book.

Bible Verse:

Parker wrote and memorized Philippians 1:3 as his Bible verse for this chapter.

LANGUAGE ARTS:

Writing & Discussion Question:

Parker responded to the writing and discussion question in his FIAR Notebook.

Vocabulary:

Parker only had one vocabulary word for this chapter, so we added it to the Chapter 12 words and he completed it while rowing that chapter. All Vocabulary worksheets are in our Skylark Grab Bag.

Additional Reading:

Parker is reading Painting the Game. This is the first Patricia MacLachlan story he absolutely LOVES. He’s also reading Strawberry Girl, but he’s still not thrilled with the story. Perhaps the ending with win him over. There is so much emphasis on only doing things that we love, but that’s not a very practical real-life attitude. Much of our adult life is spent doing essential things that we don’t enjoy. So it’s good to work through things we don’t love as it builds a better character. As we have spare time, Parker and I will read Mary Emma & Company  together.

FINE ARTS:

Lullaby – “Hush, Little Baby”:

This was one of the songs I remember singing over and over again when I would rock Parker in his rocking chair. I may not have remembered the correct words, but I made sure they rhymed. At any rate, he enjoyed it then. It was fun to talk about it together. After reminiscing, he challenged me to sing it again…I assured him that the lyrics would not be as accurate.

I added “Hush, Little Baby” on our Skylark playlist.

ACTIVITIES & OTHER FUN STUFF:

Apple Tasting Tree:

Parker colored a Red Delicious variety for our tasting tree.

Afterwards, he added it to our apple tasting tree. It’s SLOWLY getting more colorful as we add apples. As with our read-alouds, we just don’t have as much free time to do the “fun elements”.
