He read U.S.A. Travel Guides Massachusetts on our EPIC app.

He even read about his favorite chips – Cape Cod Potato Chips! He took a moment to enjoy this salty snack.
Life Skills – Living with Hope and Determination:

Parker read The Value of Determination. This book in the ValueTale series was about Helen Keller, because she was known for her determination.

Writing & Discussion Question:

Parker responded to the writing and discussion question in his FIAR Notebook.
Archaic DeterminationTerminology – “Deaf and Dumb”:
After reading and discussing this unit, I gave Parker a brief summary of my experience volunteering at the School for the Deaf in college. This unit quickly became the science of sound.

Parker read Sound: Shhh…Bang…POP…BOOM!
Read-Aloud:

We’re reading aloud Mary Emma & Company as time permits. This particular book is Parker’s favorite. Let’s face it Moody is a great storyteller.
SCIENCE:
Sensory Deprivation Exercise:

First, Parker read Keep Your Ear on the Ball and Sight: Glimmer, Glow, Spark, Flash! on our EPIC app.

Afterwards, he put on an eye mask, inserted ear plugs and noise-cancelling headphones for about 10 minutes. Afterwards, we talked about it, how it felt to live like Helen.
ACTIVITIES & OTHER FUN STUFF:
Apple Tasting Tree:

Parker colored a Macintosh apple variety for our tasting tree.

Afterwards, he added it to our apple tasting tree.
HELPFUL LINKS:
Chapter Book GRAB BAG:
I started creating a GRAB BAG for the Helen Keller Chapter Book Unit. The Grab Bag series is a collection of worksheets and/or activities that I create while studying the FIAR Chapter Book units with my children. I will post it as soon as it’s available for purchase.

*NOTE: Please be aware that any printable from the Grab Bag series may have worksheets that are similar and/or the same as those available in our other printables. We try to include anything that could enhance a student’s learning experience while rowing the chapter book series.
Pinterest Board:
You can find most of the activities, ideas, and printables from this post on our Helen Keller Pinterest board.
Youtube Playlist:
As with our other rows, we created a Helen Keller Playlist with read-alouds, music, science, and other clips.
