CHAPTER 3 – THE STRANGER COMES

BIBLE:

FIAR Bible Supplement:

Parker read both the scripture and the lesson material for this chapter, from the FIAR Bible Supplement Guide.

Bible Verse:

Parker wrote and memorized Hebrews 12:6 as his Bible verse for this chapter.

LANGUAGE ARTS:

Writing & Discussion Question:

Parker responded to the writing and discussion question in his FIAR Notebook.

Creative Writing – What Was Helen Thinking?

Parker used this prompt and his imagination to write what he could only imagine was running through Helen’s mind.

He recorded his ponderings in his FIAR notebook.

Read-Aloud:

We’re reading aloud Mary Emma & Company  as time permits. This particular book is Parker’s favorite. Let’s face it Moody is a great storyteller.

SCIENCE:

Sound is Vibration – An Experiment:

First, Parker read about the ear in our Smithsonian Body Book!

Afterwards, he labeled the Parts of the Ear worksheet from our Helen Keller Grab Bag.

Later, he connected his ukulele to the speaker and we collected our supplies.

Here’s a video of our sound is vibration experiment. It was a simple yet effective experiment.

Exploring the Five Senses:

Parker read Professor IQ Explores the Senses on our EPIC app.

Afterwards, Parker conducted an Exploring an Apple experiment using all five senses and the “Amazing Anatomy My Five Senses” worksheet from our Helen Keller Grab Bag.

FINE ARTS:

Movie Recommendation:

I added The Miracle Worker trailer to our Helen Keller Playlist.

ACTIVITIES & OTHER FUN STUFF:

Apple Tasting Tree:

Parker colored a Macintosh apple variety for our tasting tree.

Afterwards, he added it to our apple tasting tree.

I started creating a GRAB BAG for the Helen Keller Chapter Book Unit. The Grab Bag series is a collection of worksheets and/or activities that I create while studying the FIAR Chapter Book units with my children. I will post it as soon as it’s available for purchase.
