CHAPTER 7 – The Cricket Cage

Parker read both the scripture and the lesson material for this chapter, from the FIAR Bible Supplement Guide.

Bible Verse:

Parker wrote and memorized John 3:16 as his Bible verse for this chapter.

SOCIAL STUDIES:

History – United States Currency:

Parker has studied U.S. currency many times. This time around, he perused National Geographic Kids Everything Money.

LANGUAGE ARTS:

Writing & Discussion Question:

Parker answered this chapter’s writing and discussion question in his FIAR notebook.

Vocabulary:

Parker completed the vocabulary worksheet from our Grab Bag.

Dictionary Skills:

Parker is keeping a notebook of any new words he finds while reading The Hobbit by J.R. Tolkien.

For this unit, he used the dictionary to look up and write the definition for every new word added to his notebook.

SCIENCE:

Sleep:

Parker read Sleeping for Good Health on our EPIC app. Sleeping units at Christmas time always remind me of Clement C. Moore’s poem, “Twas the Night Before Christmas”.

I cannot tell you how many times the boys have worked on memorizing this poem. We never seemed to have enough time to finish, but this year would be our final year and I was determined to have Parker memorize it completely.

Parker continued to memorize Twas the Night Before Christmas with The Night Before Christmas by Tomie de Paola as his inspiration.

FINE ARTS:

Design Your Own Currency:

I thought it would be fun to make this unit more whimsical by allowing Parker to create a Christmas currency.

To get us in the whimsical Christmas mood, it seemed perfect to read Elf: The Classic Illustrated Storybook.

Afterwards, Parker created his own Christmas currency in paper bills and coins.

Parker and I continued our Christmas in New York theme by reading excerpts from A Very New York Christmas. This book was gifted by Parker’s aunt. It came with paper ornaments that we hung up in the playroom.

Christmas in the Northeast:

Parker read about Christmas in the Northeast from our Christmas U.S.A. book.

Parker completed some worksheets from our Christmas in the Northeast printable.
