History – Russian Rulers – The Czars and Empresses:
In the sixth grade, Parker studied Russia, Peter the Great and the Czars. That fall, we read Peter the Great by Diane Stanley and Anastasia, The Last Grand Duchess by Carolyn Meyer.
For this row, I decided to have him read Who Was Catherine the Great?.
History & Geography – Appreciating and Enjoying Polish Culture:
Parker read Cultural Traditions in Poland on our EPIC app.
Parker made the Bigos, or our version without the Sauerkraut, for dinner. It was really delicious.
We had Parker’s Bigos with homemade Mac and Cheese. Lastly, Parker mixed a Caesar salad kit, his absolute favorite.
Geography – The Fresh Riviera:
Parker watched an online reading of Claris: Bonjour Riviera which I added on our Marie Curie and the Discovery of Radium playlist.
I also added Rick Steves’ European clip about the French Riviera on our Marie Curie and the Discovery of Radium playlist.
Concentration – Developing Better Concentration:
This is always a great topic of conversation. I think learning to concentrate of schoolwork is a challenge at every stage of development. I find that it’s especially more-so as we creep into the spring season. This year, Parker has really worked on his independent learning skills as he follows a daily schedule, crossing off assignments as he finishes them. Some days are better than others, but we are really growing as an independent learner.
Just for fun, I thought it would be good to play a “board game” that requires concentration. Perfection is one where you have to be in the moment while still keeping good time. Sounds like great practice for staying on track as an independent learner. 🙂
