SOCIAL STUDIES:
The Renaissance:
Architecture:
The Renaissance was a time of rebirth. People were rediscovering Architecture, so I brought out the blocks. When in Rome….right?
Jordan dumped out the blocked and I challenged him to find a building block inspired by the Romans.
He knew exactly what I was asking for. He proudly held up the arch.
The boys worked together to create a solid foundation.
They built quite an impressive structure. Great job boys!
Art:
We also read about Leonardo Da Vinci, Michelangelo. I set out an invitation to “Create Art like Michelangelo” activity.
I taped paper to the underside of our table and set out paint pens, colored pencils, and crayon pastels.
The kids were laughing and commenting how Michelangelo had it hard.
They had fun creating their own art with whatever medium they chose.

MATH:
January Calendar:

You can purchase your copy here at our TPT Store.
Since we started in September, we added a new cover to our calendar pages.
The boys added the dates, holidays, and birthdays to their calendars.
SCIENCE:
Layers of the Earth Parfait:
I thought it would be fun to end our science reading this week with a tasty layers of the earth parfait.
We set out our Magic School Bus – Inside the Earth book as reference while we layered our parfait with tasty ingredients.
Starting at the bottom, we used Rice Krispies for limestone, purple fruit loops for shale, crushed fortune cookies for sandstone, and chocolate pudding for the soil. Parker crushed Oreos on top.
We could actually see each layer, I even snuck in a few “fossils” (mini Swedish Fish) in between the layers.
Parks LOVED eating through his science lesson today!
He spotted the hidden fossil! So cool! Until next week….
