Sonlight Level D (Week 21)

BIBLE:

Poetry:

Over the next six weeks, the boys will be memorizing a poem instead of their weekly Bible verse.

Paul Revere’s Ride:

Since Jordan was studying Pail Revere’s Ride in his FIAR unit, I created a Paul Revere’s Ride poem booklet. The boys started tracing, illustrating, and memorizing this poem.

Near the end of the week, I realized that memorizing Paul Revere’s Ride would take a little longer than expected. I asked the boys to choose a new poem to memorize.

Parker chose to memorize Windy Nights by Robert Louis Stevenson. I printed a copy of the Windy Nights poem booklet I made a few years back. You can download your FREE copy here at our TPT Store. Jordan chose to memorize Pirate Story by Robert Louis Stevenson. I created a Pirate Story poem booklet for him to use. You can download your FREE copy here at our TPT Store.

Osage:

This week we learned about the Osage tribe.

We brought out our US map and gems to mark the Osage states.

MATH:

Founding Fathers Math:

I created a Founding Fathers – Calculating Age worksheet for the boys to complete.

You can download your FREE copy here at iur TPT Store. I printed the first page for the boys to complete.

As the boys calculated each age, they discovered many lived long lives.

Colonial Coordinates:

I printed a Colonial Coordinate worksheet (The Mailbox) for the boys.

The boys mapped out the 13 colonies while I read aloud.

We reviewed his “paragraphs” page from his Grammar Ace notebook.

We reviewed paragraphs, topic sentences, and the types of paragraphs.

Grammar Grab Bag:

I created a Valentines themed Grammar Grab Bag (GGB) for this week’s language arts activities.

Spelling:

I cut out his spelling cards, letter tiles, and presented them with the spelling mat (in GGB).

On Monday, we practiced building some of the spelling words. I read the card aloud and Parker built the word.

On Tuesday, we laid out his cards and he completed his spelling sentences.

Spelling Equations:

For this activity, I brought out his spelling cards, cut out the word equation cards, and presented them with his Word Equation Mat (in GGB).

I read a spelling word and parker built the equation. First, he placed the Root Word card on the mat. Next, he placed any correction cards on the mat. Lastly, he placed the New Word card on the mat.

After our word equation activity, Parker completed the coordinating worksheets.

Linking & Action Verbs:

Parker and I reviewed both action verbs and linking verbs. Afterwards, I handed him the Valentine Day Party worksheet.

Parker completed the worksheet then we reviewed it together, correcting any mistakes.

This week we started our TOPS Radishes science unit.

Happy Birthday:

Parker and I set up his milk carton greenhouse, made his foil planters, planted radish seeds, and filled out his TOPs notebook.

Later in the week, Parker and I made more foil planters. He transplanted some of his radish sprouts in them.
