“ICE SKATES IN JULY”
BIBLE:
Character Lessons:

Jordan continued reading through the FIAR Bible and character lessons. We split up any remaining scripture verses over the rest of the week. I try to give him a “daily Bible bite” to accompany his assigned scripture verses.
Memory Verse:

Jordan memorized Proverbs 13:12 while rowing this chapter.
SOCIAL STUDIES:
Ice Skates:
Since this chapter was about Betsy getting a new pair of skates, I added clips about ice skating to the Betsy Ross playlist.

I also had Jordan read an ice skating article in An Uncommon History of Common Things.
LANGUAGE ARTS:
Foreshadowing – John Ross:
Jordan and I talked about foreshadowing and who he thought John Ross was. He quickly responded with, “her future husband”.
I also added a foreshadowing clip in our Betsy Ross playlist.
SCIENCE:
Heat:

In addition to reading about heat in the FIAR manual, I had Jordan read about hot air rising and hot air balloons in The Usborne Children’s Encyclopedia.

Jordan also read a little more about hot air balloons in How Things Work: Hot Air Balloons.
Oil – Lubricant & Rust Prevention:
Jordan reviewed oxidation and rust using our “Rust of the Story” worksheet from The Boxcar Children.

Jordan completed the worksheet before starting the rust science experiment.

Jordan read through the notes then set up the first part of the experiment. We left it overnight and will check it at the required intervals.

We’ll continue this experiment in the next chapter too!
