ADDITIONAL LESSONS (MINI UNIT)
READY TO ROW:
Reading Shelf:

I set out a mostly Thanksgiving themed reading shelf for this row.
Story Disk:

Parker colored the story disk and placed in on the East Coast.
Cover Art:

Parker created his cover art, which included both Maggie and Mr. Whiskers.
BIBLE:
Memory Verse:
I created a Bible verse printable for this mini unit.

You can purchase your copy here at our TPT Store. There’s a bonus FREEbie in the preview.

Parker wrote his Bible verse on the copywork worksheet.
Cultivating Thankful Hearts:
Since we were studying a Thanksgiving book, it seemed like the perfect opportunity to cultivate a spirit of gratitude.

We spent a couple of days reading through the list of Bible verses on the FIAR mini unit board. In addition, I chose a few books which remind us to thank the Lord for all He’s given.
SOCIAL STUDIES:
Thanksgiving:

We read many funny, historical and touching Thanksgiving books from our reading shelf.

We read Pilgrim Stories aloud while studying this mini row.
New England:

We read a Rookie Geography book for each of the New England States.

After reading each book, Parker color-coded the New England States on a worksheet from our Cranberry Thanksgiving Story Review.
The Resilient Sarah Hale:

After reading about Sarah Hale, in our FIAR manual, we read Thank You, Sarah.

We also read Mary Had a Little Lamb since Sarah Hale wrote it.
LANGUAGE ARTS:
Story Review:
I created another Story Review for this mini unit.
Punctuation:

We read If You Were a Period, If You Were an Exclamation Point, and If You Were a Question Mark.

Afterwards, Parker completed A Bushel of Punctuation worksheet from our Story Review.
Onomatopoeia:

First, we read If You Were Onomatopoeia.

Afterwards, he worked on the onomatopoeia worksheet from the Story Review.
MATH:
Fractions:

Parker read Working with Fractions.

Afterwards, he completed the It’s a Piece of Pie fraction worksheets.
SCIENCE:
Cranberries:

We read Time for Cranberries. This is one of our favorite cranberry books.

Afterwards, he filled out the All About Cranberries worksheet from the original Cranberry Thanksgiving Story Review.
Gulls:

We read Gulls, Gulls, Gulls by Gail Gibbons.

Afterwards, we read Thy Friend, Obadiah.

Afterwards, Parker color-coded the Parts of a Seagull worksheet from the Story Review.
FINE ARTS:
Architectural 1900s New England Housing Design Elements:

First, Parker read The ABC Book of American Homes.

Later, he read Iggy Peck Architect.
Grandmother’s Bread:

Parker scooped, measured, and mixed the ingredients for Grandmother’s bread.

We made this years ago, but I don’t remember it being this delicious. Parker and I agreed that we need to make it every year.
