CHAPTER 3
BIBLE:
FIAR Bible Supplement:

Parker read both the scripture and lesson material for this chapter, using the FIAR Bible Supplement Guide.

On other days, he continued reading and studying Bible with his Power of Words book.
Bible Verse:

Parker wrote and memorized Matthew 11:25 as his Bible verse for this chapter.
SOCIAL STUDIES:
History – How the Church Served in the Community:

Parker read The Berenstain Bears Harvest Festival, which was renamed Celebrate Fall. The church, along with members of their community, came together to help Farmer Ben’s harvest then shared in a wonderful harvest.

Afterwards, he wrote all the ways our church helps in our community.
Career Paths – Astronaut and Astronomer:

First, Parker read Floating in Space.

Next, he read about astronauts in 100 Things to Be When You Grow Up on our Epic App.

Last, he used a Nasa link to help him color-code the parts of an Astronauts Spacesuit worksheet from our Skylark Grab Bag.
LANGUAGE ARTS:
Writing & Discussion Question:

Parker responded to the writing and discussion question in his FIAR Notebook.
Vocabulary:

Parker completed both the third chapter vocabulary words and added them in his FIAR Notebook.
Read-Aloud:

We’re waiting for our next read-aloud book, Mary Emma & Company to arrive.
SCIENCE:
Cows – Herbivores:

First and to keep things light and fun, Parker read All About Farms to get immersed in all things farm.

Then he read The Milk Makers by Gail Gibbons, which specifically covered how the cow eats, digests and produces milk.

Afterwards, he color-coded the Parts of a Cow’s Stomach worksheet from our Skylark Grab Bag.
FINE ARTS:
Color Theory:
Parker has covered Color Theory many times, but it’s still a nice activity when we use various mediums to color mix.

He used watercolor to complete the color theory worksheets from our Skylark Grab Bag and added them in his FIAR Notebook.
ACTIVITIES & OTHER FUN STUFF:
Apple Tasting Tree:
We began to color apple varieties, starting with our own Fuji and Honeycrisp apples in our yard.

Parker picked a couple of apples, washed them and used them as a reference to color our apple cut-out.

He colored both a Fuji and Honeycrisp apple for our tasting tree.

He added them on our tree then ate the apples afterwards.
HELPFUL LINKS:
Chapter Book GRAB BAG:
I started creating a GRAB BAG for the Skylark Chapter Book Unit. The Grab Bag series is a collection of worksheets and/or activities that I create while studying the FIAR Chapter Book units with my children. I will post it as soon as it’s available for purchase.

*NOTE: Please be aware that any printable from the Grab Bag series may have worksheets that are similar and/or the same as those available in our other printables. We try to include anything that could enhance a student’s learning experience while rowing the chapter book series.
Pinterest Board:
You can find most of the activities, ideas, and printables from this post on our Skylark Pinterest board.
Youtube Playlist:
As with our other rows, we created a Skylark Playlist with read-alouds, music, science, and other clips.
